Since January of 2008 WEbook, the ground-breaking online resource for aspiring authors, has taken a new approach to publish books in print and electronically.

Editor's Choice

WEbook is many things to many people, but most of all, WEbook presents a way to get that novel or collection of short stories published without having to self-publish in order to break into the elite world of published authors.

For those writers who haven't earned a master's degree in writing from an Ivy league school or who don't have a literary agent to get the attention of editors and publishers, WEbook is a way to cut to the chase.

What is WEbook

WEbook can be called many things, but mostly it is:

  • an online community of writers, editors, reviewers
  • a place to store writing until it is ready to be published
  • a place to collaborate on projects with other writers
  • a place to read and be read by others
  • a place for illustrators to find writers and vice versa
  • a publishing company

WEbook is above all, an online publishing company that rewards good writing. There are a vast number of talented writers who cannot get their foot in the door of traditional publishing houses.

What is WEbook's Mission

The people who run WEbook consider their company as, "a 21st-century substitute for the standard literary agency and publishing house – which stands to revolutionize the industry through user-generated books."

Thus far in WEbook's short history, several books have been published. The community keeps growing and the work continues to be pressed and polished by the members of WEbook and WEbook's helpful staff.

Who Are WEbook's Backers

Backed by several lead investors and advisors, one of whom was the creator of Instant Messaging on AOL, one begins to see a thread of continuity here. Inventive, creative minds who aren't afraid of a little challenge, these bright minds see the future that most of us can't envision just yet.

What's Happening at WEbook

Several times a year, WEbook opens the door to all the finished projects for the VOTE. Each project is read and then voted on by the WEbook community with a decision to: 'Publish', 'Maybe', or 'No'. The variety of books put up for the vote includes every genre imaginable, from nonfiction to fiction and poetry.

When each voting period ends, the number of votes for each project are made visible to the WEbook community. It becomes clear which projects are in the top ten percent. The WEbook staff then makes a final decision on which of the top-rated books will become the next published book.

Do Writers Get Paid on WEbook

Once a collaborative book project or a single author's novel has been chosen to be published, contracts will be signed and royalties paid. A single author will receive 50% of royalties, while a collaborator will receive a designated percentage of royalties, depending upon the number of contributors.

All in all, WEbook takes on the job of editing, marketing and publishing. Where else can a writer get this kind of deal without paying a dime to a literary agent while getting his proverbial foot in the door?

What's Wrong With WEbook

When a writer has come to the end of the writing and reviewing process, having put his book up for the VOTE, it comes across slightly like a popularity contest rather than a proper chance to publish a worthy project.

If one writes in a genre like poetry, for example, the masses just aren't that excited about poetry so much as they are entertained by short stories and horror novels. So, if writing for the masses is going to be done well, it must be able to reach through the digital screen and catch the quickly diminishing attention span of the current culture.

What's Right About WEbook

WEbook is a wonderful writing community which offers resources, inspiration, friendship, and the light at the end of the tunnel; the opportunity to be published.

WEbook is a trend setting, ground-breaking resource. It's a great way to help writers store their writing while constantly receiving feedback. Where else, other than school, does a writer get this kind of helpful interaction to improve and strengthen his craft?
