HubPages provides a free publishing venue for each member's own articles, generating an income for the writer in several ways.
HubPages is a site that allows anyone to create their own web pages for free. Each page, called a Hub, is a separate page that can be connected to other hubs or left as an individual page. There is no minimum or maximum size of a hub. Longer hubs are often used as websites to advertise products or services. Others use their hubs as a portfolio site to house design or writing samples. How to Make a HubHub writers must sign up for a HubPages account and choose a user name. Each hub is them started by choosing a hub name and labeling it with keyword tags based on the content of the hub. The hub is then put together with text, photo and video components. The hubs can be informational, entertaining or promotional. Getting Paid for HubsHubPages has a program for paying writers who write large numbers of related hubs. The money paid to hub writers directly from the site is the HubPages Flagship Program. Not all HubPages writers who apply to the Flagship Program are accepted. Writers who have written at least five non-commercial hubs can be accepted to write hubs about topics that are pre-approved by HubPages. Those writers are paid $25 for the Flagship hubs as well as a $10 traffic bonus if the hub brings in traffic from 10 or more sites outside of HubPages within the first month. Other Payment For HubsMost hub writers aren't a part of the Flagship Program. Instead, they generate income through a share of each of their hub's Adsense and Kontera revenue. To do this, the writer must have his own AdSense and Kontera accounts. Both are free to sign up for and both use pay-per-click ads that are chosen for each hub based on the prevalent keywords on the page. AdSense is Google's PPC ad system that places small ads in various places around the hub based on where the code is placed by HubPages. The site promises the writers 60 percent of the revenue from their hubs, though they have been known to take higher percentages. Kontera is a similar system that places PPC ads linked to specific keywords on each hub. Affiliate ProgramsThere are also two affiliate programs that are integrated with HubPages. Amazon affiliate accounts are simple to sign up for through Amazon.com. There is a hub component that can be added to each hub that advertises a few items for sale. Anything bought through these links will earn a commission for the hub writer. The writer can choose the exact items that are being sold or can make the items dependent on certain keywords. The eBay affiliate program is free to sign up for, but the site reviews each affiliate applicant before they are accepted. It can take several days to several weeks to get a response from the eBay affiliate program, and the site has been known to turn down HubPages writers. People accepted into the program use it like the Amazon program in order to generate commissions.
